Myositis Ossificans:
Myositis ossificans is bone formation within the muscle belly following a traumatic blow to that muscle. It usually occurs in the quadriceps during contact sports. Muscle function and mobility of the knee joint is impaired. There is a risk of recurrent injury in the same area. Symptoms include localized tenderness, loss of range of motion, and pain with active straightening of the knee.

Treatment includes:
Compression padding

Education about the condition and how to avoid making it worse.

After the acute stage when the excess bone is forming, therapeutic modalities to improve circulation and/or reduce inflammation and pain such as ultrasound, laser, interferential current, electrical muscle stimulation, acupuncture.

Exercises to strengthen the appropriate muscles. No stretching acutely.

Manual therapy to improve the movement in the area after the initial stage.

Thigh Pain:
Muscle Strains - A strain is the result of an injury to a muscle or tendon. This injury could be a stretch or tear of the muscle or tendon. Strains in the thigh include quadriceps and hamstrings.

Muscle Rupture - A rupture is a full tear of the muscle or tendon. This injury could occur with a traumatic stretch or tear of the muscle or tendon. Strains in the thigh include quadriceps and hamstrings.
